George Shearing Tribute

 

The Argiro Quintet performs a special concert featuring note-for-note transcriptions of famous George Shearing Quintet recordings including, September In The Rain, Lullaby of Birdland, I’ll Remember April, and more. The performance also includes vocals from quintet recordings with, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee, Nancy Wilson and others, all sung by Argiro and featured vocalist, Andrea Niki. The performance includes anecdotes and historical notes about Shearing and in performance spaces that can accommodate it, film clips that introduce or highlight various parts of the program. A slightly different program titled, “Music in the Style of George Shearing (And Beyond)” includes new arrangements in the Shearing style, jazz pieces and original compositions. The quintet is also available to perform these special concerts with a symphony orchestra. The orchestra backing is beautifully arranged and integrated with the quintet to create a memorable concert of great music.
